One Thing, Finished

I used to measure my day by how many things I touched. I’d end it exhausted, with a dozen tasks all at ninety percent and nothing actually done.

Ninety percent is zero percent. It still needs your attention. It still wakes you at night. An unfinished task doesn’t rest — it holds a corner of your mind hostage until you close it.

So I changed the target. Not “how much did I start” but “what did I finish.” One loop, fully closed, beats three left hanging.

There’s a specific quiet that arrives when something is truly done — the PR merged, the branch deleted, the message sent. That quiet is where my best work actually happens, because my head is finally empty enough to do it.

Now I chase the quiet, not the busy. It turns out they were never the same thing.
