I used to think the goal
was to predict the future correctly.
Pick the right tech. Bet on the right trend.
Be the one who called it.
I was wrong more than I was right.
What actually protected me
wasn’t good prediction.
It was keeping my options open.
Skills that transferred across jobs.
A buffer that let me say no.
Doors I chose not to slam shut.
I couldn’t see the next shift coming.
But I stayed able to move when it did.
That’s optionality.
Not guessing right —
staying free to respond.
It’s the quietest advantage I have.
