Early in my career
I wanted to be the hero.
The all-nighter. The dramatic save.
The story people tell.
What I slowly understood
is that the heroics usually meant
something quieter had failed first.
The people I came to trust most
weren’t dramatic at all.
They just did what they said,
on the ordinary days,
again and again.
No story. Just a word that held.
Reputation isn’t built in the crisis.
It’s spent there.
It’s built on a hundred boring days
of being someone people can count on.
That’s the kind I try to be now.
