Growth Lives Just Past What’s Comfortable

If I only play what I already can,
I stay exactly where I am.

Comfortable, and frozen.

Everything I’ve actually learned
came from a song slightly out of reach.

The piece I fumbled for weeks.
The passage too fast for my hands,
until one day it wasn’t.

The fumbling felt like failure.
It was the lesson, happening.

Now I deliberately pick something
a little too hard.

It keeps me a beginner,
which keeps me growing.

The comfortable song is a nice place to visit.
The hard one is where I change.
