I used to argue to win.
Once I’d staked out a position,
admitting I was wrong felt like losing.
So I’d defend things I’d already stopped believing.
It took me too long to see the cost.
I was trading being right
for looking right.
Now I try to hold opinions firmly
and drop them quickly.
The moment someone shows me a better view,
the win is changing my mind, not defending it.
Care enough to argue.
Detach enough to lose well.
